SUGGAN BUGGAN
SAMBAR PELLET COUNT SURVEY

This is the fourth year of this important survey, which has led to a greater understanding of deer populations in the Sugan Buggan area.

When: 29 - 30 May 2010

Who: Parks Victoria need eight or more volunteers and will cover costs for campsites for Friday and Saturday evening, all meals on Saturday, brekkie and lunch on Sunday.  Please advise of any special dietary requirements before the weekend. We need at least five people who can use a map, compass and GPS and will take up to three people who want to learn how to navigate with map, compass and GPS.

What to bring: camping gear, GPS and 4WD's.

What’s involved?  It’s always been a great weekend and we'll get to see some amazing country!  Parks VIC Rangers train you in what is required.  All we have to do is arive Fri evening, conduct the counts & depart Sun afternoon. This is a great father (parent/grandparent) and son/daughter/grandchild activity.

What else: Food and accommodation provided. (details will be advised) Cammo clothes are ok but no guns or belt knives – we are not hunting.

Some money is available to help offset fuel costs. Members are encouraged to share transport.

4th Feb 2010   Hi
We have the game management initiative as a site on the DSE website. See :

http://www.dse.vic.gov.au/DSE/nrenrt.nsf/LinkView/914CBF12B17D7475CA2576AB001408427380F92E35E27D99CA2573750023D375

The themes of the projects are clear and many of the messages about themes are included.

This site   will  now be our ongoing place  for community to  source fact sheets and reports from the  Game Management Initiative.
As such there is access to the    Hog Deer Management Strategy 2009  and the Improved Monitoring of Game Harvest Summary and link to the report.

18th Jan 2010 Hi All,
FYI, attached ( top left ) is a paper just released by the MCAV on the links between grazing and fuel reduction, which underscores the argument that plenty of research has been conducted looking for possible detrimental effects of grazing and very little research initiated by the government to look at the benefits of grazing in land management.

This will be uploaded to the VLA website soon.  The paper can be distributed if you wish.
